Husqvarna Group reaffirms commitment to reducing CO2 emissions

Husqvarna Group today joined the global group of leading companies to sign Business Ambition for 1.5°C. With this letter, the Group is reaffirming its commitment to doing its fair share to limiting a global temperature rise to 1.50C, in line with the Paris agreement.

“By signing the Business Ambition for 1.50C, we are committing to zero net CO2 emissions across our value chain by 2050, and to use science-based emissions reduction targets to guide us on our journey,” Henric Andersson, Husqvarna Group President & CEO stated.

As of May 2020, 237CEOs have signed the Business Ambition for 1.5°C commitment, which is led by the Science Based Target initiative in partnership with the UN Global Compact and the We Mean Business coalition. Henric Andersson is the first business leader in its industry to sign this global effort.

“Our ambition is to lead our industry in the transition to a low-carbon economy. With the launch of the next phase of Sustainovate--our sustainability program--and new targets to further reduce CO2 emissions to 2025, we are addressing opportunities where we can contribute most to transforming to a more resource-smart economy, ” Andersson added.

Approved by the Science-based targets initiative

The Group’s updated science-based target, approved in March 2020, aims to reduce absolute CO2 emissions by 35% between 2015 and 2025, taking responsibility for CO2 emissions through the entire value chain from suppliers, transportation, our own operations to when the products are being used.

This is the second iteration of Husqvarna Group’s carbon reduction targets to be science-based approved. The Group was the first company listed on the Swedish stock exchange - and the first company in its industry - to have its goal approved by the science-based target initiative in 2017.

Decoupling CO2 from business growth

Husqvarna Group has a strong track record of demonstrating the business case for sustainability. As reported in the Group’s Sustainovate Progress Report 2019, the Group is decoupling business growth from its CO2 emissions. Over the last four years, it has reduced absolute CO2 emissions by 25% while increasing sales by 17%. This is largely due to the shift to battery-powered and robotics technologies.
