Six things you want to know about our watering journey
Water is one of our most vital resources, yet only a small fraction is fresh and accessible. With global warming intensifying droughts and shrinking water reserves, responsible water use has never been more critical.
At Husqvarna Group, we're committed to transforming how we manage and conserve water. This mission goes beyond serving our customers—it's about ensuring a sustainable future for everyone. Here's how we're leading the way in smart watering solutions and how you can help make every drop count.
1. Global market leader in residential watering
With our Gardena and Orbit brands, we're leading the global residential watering market. In Europe, Gardena has become the industry standard for hose couplings and attachments, offering a comprehensive range of products that meet every gardener’s needs. Across the Atlantic, Orbit holds a similar position in North America with cutting-edge irrigation solutions. The B-hyve system, for example, provides intuitive control and automation to maximize water efficiency. Together, we're redefining how the world waters its gardens.
2. The evolution of smart watering technology is transforming how we care for our gardens.
Most homeowners still water their gardens manually, using hoses, nozzles, and portable sprinklers. But as gardens grow in size and complexity, this task can become quite tedious. That's why automated watering solutions have gained popularity for their convenience. Already back in 1985, Gardena launched its first "Watering Computer," a device that attached to the water tap and controlled watering schedules, even featuring a rain sensor.
Today, Gardena and Orbit offer a wide range of water controllers and sensors, catering to everything from basic setups to complex systems, ensuring optimal plant health. Their smart systems, Gardena Smart System and Orbit’s B-hyve, elevate watering with advanced scheduling features, integrating weather forecasts and seasonal changes, all managed through user-friendly apps.
3. We are expanding our offering into professional markets
Beyond our established consumer base, we are expanding into the professional market, targeting the commercial and agricultural sectors. With our recent acquisition of ETwater, we have expanded our smart irrigation technology and go-to-market capabilities to offer solutions ranging from hose-end devices to complex systems for centrally managed residential communities, commercial landscapes, sports fields and even large-scale agricultural applications.
4. From agriculture to home gardens, Gardena’s Micro-Drip-System is revolutionizing water efficiency.
In the 1960s, Israel developed a highly efficient method of drip irrigation for agriculture in this arid region. This method reduced evaporation, runoff, and wind loss, ensuring water reached the soil and nourishes plants efficiently.
In 1985, Gardena brought this innovation to private gardeners as the modular Micro-Drip-System. Since then, the system has been continuously expanded and developed. Combined with sensors and an intelligent control system, it is the most efficient way to water plants. Scientific studies confirm that it uses the same or less water to produce healthier plants and higher yields compared to traditional methods. As water costs rise and restrictions increase, more homeowners are turning to smart irrigation solutions to conserve water and optimize their gardens.
5. Small actions can have a big impact; here are some tips for using water wisely.
At Husqvarna Group, we believe in the power of collective action, and we want to inspire actions that make a lasting difference. Each of us can contribute to preserving water—a vital resource for our planet. Here are a few tips to get started.
Let’s embrace these small actions to create a lasting difference. Together, we can make every drop count!
6. ‘Every drop counts’, and that’s why we’ve partnered with UNICEF.
Solving the major problems facing humanity, such as the lack of clean and safe drinking water for everyone in the world, is far beyond our capabilities. Therefore, in 2018, GARDENA partnered with UNICEF under the slogan “Every drop counts.” This long-term partnership aims to provide access to clean drinking water for children and families in need. Through UNICEF’s WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programs, we are helping to improve water and sanitation services in some of the world's poorest regions. Learn more about the partnership.
