Rewilding your lawn

Husqvarna is presenting a new feature to our robotic lawn mowers; Rewilding Mode. It’s not our most advanced one, but it may be our most important one yet. It is also the first feature of its kind in the world, designed for a very specific audience: bees, butterflies, beetles and other pollinators. Because without them, we would have no gardens.

Introducing Rewilding Mode

Rewilding Mode uses GPS wizardry to set aside 10% of your lawn for biodiversity. That means leaving a part of your lawn unmown, so the pollinators, like the bees, butterflies and beetles have a place to work and live.

That may not sound like much, and for you, it probably isn’t. But if 10% of every European lawn were left to grow, that area would be four times the size of Europe’s largest nature reserve. However, we understand that ceasing to mow is not enough to maximize biodiversity. That is why we partnered with award winning garden expert and designer, Tom Massey, and created an easy-to-follow guide so you can maximize the potential of your rewilding zone. Helping you create a thriving ecosystem within your garden.

Benefits with Husqvarna´s robotic lawn mowers are that they are battery driven, produce zero CO2 emissions while in use and operate quietly. With the introduction of Rewilding Mode, we continue to support a sustainable future and encourage everyone in our industry to do the same.

How to create a rewilding zone

  • In the Automower® Connect app, choose “Map view” and “Add Rewilding zone.” A rewilding zone that is 10% of your total lawn area will be added in the virtual map view.
  • Drag and drop the rewilding zone to the desired location within your virtual map and change the shape and size as you wish.
  • You have now created your very own rewilding zone!

Note: The app suggests 10% for you, but the size, shape and location can be altered whenever you want. You can name your rewilding zone for a more personal touch, and if needed, it can be turned on and off or completely removed.

expand_less What is rewilding?
Rewilding is the process of restoring natural ecosystems and allowing them to function as closely as possible to the way they would naturally. We aid this process by leaving a portion of your lawn unmown and guide garden owners on how to care for this area to boost biodiversity, so nature can create its own natural habitat.

Husqvarna Automower® models 405X, 415X, 430X NERA, 435X AWD and 450X NERA (430X NERA and 450X NERA need a boundary wire installation to use Rewilding Mode).
Please note: update your mower for the latest firmware to be installed.

Please ensure that you have the latest version of the Automower® Connect app, available for download via Google Play and App Store.

Thanks to our GPS systems, we can calculate the size of your lawn in real-time. When you choose to rewild, we simply create a rewilding zone the size of 10% of your total lawn area. The rewilding zone is an area added to the virtual map in the Automower® Connect app and can be resized, moved, re-shaped or removed whenever you choose. We encourage everyone to create a biodiversity zone, for a healthier garden and planet.

As far as we know, this is the first feature in our industry that has been developed to boost biodiversity and encourage garden owners toward a more sustainable way of maintaining their gardens.
