International Women’s Day: Sparking innovation through diversity
With fewer than 30% of women in the tech and engineering workforce globally, the gender gap in our industry is unmistakable. At Husqvarna Group we firmly believe that diversity is a key to innovation and creating a company that’s built to last. It's through our diverse perspectives and experiences that we create a stronger organization, where we have fun together.
With a clear diversity and inclusion goal in mind, we are dedicated to increasing the representation of women in our industry and within our company*. Yet, we understand the importance of diversity not just in terms of gender, but across all aspects of identity.
However, narrowing this gender gap is not a single act; it requires collective action. Within our Group, we actively engage in various initiatives aimed at attracting girls and women to the tech industry.
"At Husqvarna Group, we believe in inspiring girls to explore the world of technology and engineering from an early age. For several years, we proudly partner with initiatives that promote female engineering. This is a long-term commitment integral to attracting more women to our company and our industry", says Mi Nyberg Johnsson, VP Leadership & Culture.
Empowering girls in engineering around the globe
In various locations within the Group, we are actively involved in long-term initiatives aimed at fostering the participation of women in engineering and technology fields.
Girls Day
For over three decades, our company has actively participated in "Girls Day - Future Prospects for Girls," a nationwide career-orientation project for girls, across multiple locations in Germany. This initiative aims to provide young girls with the opportunity to explore professions where female representation is currently limited, such as IT, trades, natural sciences, and technology. Sponsored by girls-day.de, the program aims to broaden women’s career options and challenge gender stereotypes. Through hands-on experiences and direct engagement with professionals, Girls' Day enables girls to make informed career choices based on their interests and abilities. The next Girls' Day will take place on April 25th.
Female Tech Engineer
In Sweden we are partnering with the company CoGig to foster diversity and excellence in the tech industry, CoGic is a company committed to gender equality in the corporate world and runs three annual talent programs. These programs are specifically designed for female and non-binary engineering students nearing the end of their studies. In recent years, we have dedicated our efforts to the Female Tech Engineering Program, actively fostering the growth and development of aspiring tech engineers for the future.
“We want to be an inclusive organization creating an environment in which all people feel that they are adding value. By being a partner for the Female Tech Engineer program, we get an opportunity to connect with and showcase our brand to this attractive pool of female and non-binary engineering talents. And after the program we get access to an incredible talent pool that shares our values”, says Amanda Tellander, Talent Acquisition & Employer Branding Manager Sweden”.
Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
At our Husqvarna Construction site in Jonsered, Sweden, we invite girls and non-binary individuals aged 13 to 19 to join us for the national event "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day," organized by the Womengineer Foundation. IGE aims to enhance girls' understanding of technology and its societal impact while offering them inspiring role models from within the industry. Scheduled for March 22, this event will be held at over 100 workplaces across Sweden.
"Supporting this initiative is a natural choice as we constantly seek opportunities to increase the interest in engineering amongst school kids. We have for instance arranged paid internships for high school students through the “Tekniksprånget” program for several years. This is the first year we will join the “Introduce a girl to engineering” initiative. To especially inspire young girls around engineering topics and connect them to our company and industry is of utmost importance to us. We hope that this will be a day brimming with energy, pride, joy, while bringing new perspectives for our engineers”, says Martin Huber, Vice President R&D, Husqvarna Construction."
